2010 National Youth Concerto Competition

This year, QYO is hosting the 35th National Youth Concerto Competition. The competition was established in 1976 by John Curro AM MBE to provide young string players aged up to 17 years with an opportunity to perform a concerto with a high quality orchestra and to provide further performance opportunities through recitals.
The competition has helped to launch the careers of some Australia’s most successful musicians including Richard Tognetti, Jane Peters, Zoe Black, Li Wei and Nicholas Milton.
Excitement and brilliance have been the hallmarks of the NYCC since its origin in 1976 and this year promises to be no different. Judges will be selecting outstanding finalists and recitalists to perform public recitals throughout Finals Week. Finals Week is a fantastic opportunity for you to check out the talent for minimal or no cost before the Finals Concert with the Queensland Youth Symphony.
The winner receives a $2500 prize and adds their name to a winners list that includes some of Australia’s finest musicians.
Applications are now open for the 2010 competition. Entrants must be aged 17 years or under on the date of the Finals Concert (24 October 2010).
Applications close Wednesday 30 June 2010.
