Thank you to our musicians, conductors, tutors, volunteers and office staff for a great start to 2018. Having completed our music camps and Term 1 concerts, we look forward to the many events coming up in April, May and June including concerts, workshops and tours. Queensland Youth Symphony
Tickets are now on sale for the second Queensland Youth Symphony concert on 26 May titled “Undercurrents” featuring the brilliant flute soloist Sally Walker. Book now!

Queensland Youth Orchestra 2
QYO2 will play Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 and Grieg’s Symphonic Dances at its next Concert at Twilight on Saturday 16 June.
Queensland Youth Orchestra 3
QYO3 is touring to Bundaberg and Gympie from Friday 29 June to Sunday 1 July, including concerts at Shalom College Bundaberg with Bundaberg Youth Orchestra, Gympie Civic Centre and Gympie West State School. You can see the orchestra perform some of its tour repertoire on Saturday 9 June in a concert that will also feature the Brisbane Boys' College Strings.
Junior String Ensemble
In 2018 JSE has broken a record for its younger ever member! Cellist George Li was only 6 years old when he attended the first rehearsal on 3 February. He has since turned 7 while his brother, 10-year old Haydn Li, is a member of the first violin section. The next JSE concert is on Saturday 2 June with the Western Suburbs String Orchestras.
Wind Symphony
Wind Symphony will present selections from some of the great musicals at its next Concert at Twilight on Sunday 17 June including West Side Story, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Carousel and songs by Cole Porter. The concert will also feature a performance by the Mansfield State High School Wind Orchestra.
Wind Ensemble
QYO looks forward to welcoming musicians from Redeemer Lutheran College including the Chorale, Senior Singers and Chamber Strings for the next Wind Ensemble Concert at Twilight on Saturday 27 May.
Big Band
It’s a busy 2 months coming up for Big Band with performances at Brisbane Jazz Club on Thursday 17 May, a workshop with Mace Francis (Director of the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra) on Sunday 27 May, a performance at the Lift the Lid Ball at BCEC on Saturday 2 June and a 110th Anniversary Concert at Maryborough City Hall on Sunday 17 June..
Chamber Orchestra
The Chamber Orchestra has commenced rehearsals for its mid-year tour to North Queensland with works by Beethoven, Rossini, Mozart and a new work specially written for the tour orchestra by QYS violist Alexander Voltz. Thank you to our major corporate sponsor Peabody Energy for supporting the tour.
