LUTOSLAWSKI Concerto for Orchestra
The 2019 series commences with a new work by John Rotar, inspired by an Aztec folklore legend about a feathered serpent called Quetzalcoatl. Outstanding young bassoonist Jamie Dodd performs Hummel’s virtuosic Bassoon Concerto before the folklore theme is re-visited after interval with a suite from Prokofiev’s Cinderella ballet music. To conclude, Lutoslawski’s Concerto for Orchestra, considered the crowning achievement of the composer’s folklorist style.
