2019 Peabody Award
Congratulations to QYS violinist Tom Riethmuller for being the recipient of the 2019 Peabody Award.
In 2010, Peabody Energy and QYO instigated the Peabody Award for a QYO musician who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to QYO and musical achievement at a very high level.
2019 was Tom’s 11th year with QYO. He commenced in 2009 as a member of the Second Violin section of QYO2. After 3 years with QYO2, he successfully auditioned for QYS and joined the QYS Second Violin section for 3 years from 2012 to 2014. From 2015 till 2019 Tom has been a member of the First Violin Section of QYS.
A graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium, Tom has taken advantage of many additional opportunities that QYO has offered along the way, including the 2012 and 2017 QYS international tours, the 2014 QYO Chamber Orchestra tour (sponsored by Peabody Australia) and 2 extra concerts this year: the Opera at Jimbour in July and the QSO/QYO collaboration concert, Brahms 2, back in February. Tom has also been very active as a performer in the Morning Music chamber ensembles series and he has represented QYO in several corporate string quartet performances.
The 2019 was Tom’s 11th and final year with QYO. We wish him all the best with in his future endeavours.
