Yebin Yoo wins the NYCC
17 year old NSW violinist Yebin Yoo has been awarded 1st prize in the 42nd National Youth Concerto Competition for her brilliant performance of the challenging Brahms Violin Concerto. Congratulations also goes to the two finalists, 14 year old NSW cellist Benett Tsai who performed Elgar's Cello Concerto and 17 year old WA violinist Emmalena Huning, who opened the concert with Korngold's Violin Concerto.
The three finalists performed at the Old Museum Building, accompanied by the Queensland Youth Symphony, conducted by John Curro AM MBE. Joining the orchestra were the three 2017 NYCC Recitalists - violinists Lily McCann (17, NSW) and Leanne McGowan (16, QLD) and cellist Charlotte Miles (14, Vic).
During the NYCC Finals week, the recitalists and finalists performed 20 minute programs and participated in Q&A sessions with school students and audiences across Brisbane. Thank you to Brisbane Boys College, John Paul College, Mansfield SHS, Brisbane Grammar School and Radio 4MBS Classic FM for hosting these recitals and pianist Kathy Sander for performing alongside the musicians.
