Term 1 Music Camps
QYO's music camps provide the opportunity for new and returning members to bond as an ensemble and immerse themselves in two days of focused rehearsals and tutorials.
Morning Music
On Thursday 5 April, QYO welcomed a large audience at the first Morning Music series concert. Five soloists from QYS joined with piano accompanist Julian Wade to perform works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens, Vieuxtemps and Gliere. Thank you to Collin Myers AM for his ongoing voluntary work in organising and marketing the Morning Music concert series.
Old Museum Building Update

Our 2018 Volunteers
QYO relies heavily on volunteers and we are pleased to introduce the 2018 volunteer teams for each of our orchestras and ensembles.
QYS on Tour
The recently completed QYS tour was a great success with wonderful performances and receptions from audiences in China and Germany. The final concert earned a standing ovation from the 1,400 audience members in the Bamberg Concert Hall.
Happy Birthday John Curro!
QYO founder and QYS Conductor John Curro AM MBE celebrated his 85th birthday in December in Bonn, Germany while on tour with the Queensland Youth Symphony.
Brass Quintet at Finland100
QYO member Tim Allen-Ankins and QYO alumni Patrick McKechie and Patrick Nowland performed the hymn tune from Sibelius’ Finlandia and other works as members of the Brown Snake Brass quintet at Parliament House on 2 Dec 2017. In the presence of the Finnish Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Lars Backström, the Finland 100 event celebrated 100 years of Finnish independence.
The Governor visits QYO
The Queensland Youth Symphony had the honour of performing for QYO Patron, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland in a special concert for our patron members and donors, to thank them for their contributions towards the 2017 QYS International Tour.
